from the great outdoors to a grand display

Parts of the shedelier: See picture 1

1-Lower tier arms: the seven lower arms.
2-Upper tier arms: the 4 upper arms.
3-Hub: central circular hub that connects the lower arms to the stem.
4-Stem: vertical pipe that connects the chain to the hub.
5-Socket arms: the small arms that connect the light sockets to the lower arms
6-Movable arms: the portion of the lower tier arm that moves in and out, secured with a set screw.

Parts of an antler: See picture 2

1-Burr: raised rim around the base of antler
2-Main beam: central stem of the antler running from the burr to the tip
3-Brow tine: Or G1, the first mainframe point from the burr that branches from main beam
4-G2: the first mainframe tine above the brow tine and branches off on top of the main beam.
5-G3: the tine after the G2 as you move along the main beam.
6-G4, G5, etc.: if present, the next tines after the G3 as you move along the main beam.
7-Abnormal points: any points or tines that are not the normal mainframe points such as the brow tine, G2, G3, etc.

Assembly Steps:

1.      Gather antlers, at least 7 of one side and 4 of the other, size medium to large, for your shedelier.

2.      Divide antlers between right and left. Further, group right, left or similar sizes if you have many antlers.

3.      Determine your 7 best antlers of one side. The best antlers are ones with long tines on the G2, G3 and G4 if present.

4.      On the floor or on a table, put your 7 antlers of one side in a circle with the burrs in the center.

5.      Arrange the antlers to get as symmetric of a circle as possible. Ex: if you have 3 antlers that are bigger, evenly place those 3 around the circle with one or two antlers between them, evenly distributing the weight.

6.      Loosen the set screws on the movable lower tier arms to adjust to each antler to fit. Position the lower tier arm extending towards you.

7.      Take one antler and position it with the tines up, main beam tip towards you, burr away from you. This will form an arc.

8.      For a right antler, mount the antler to lower tier arm with center of the antler arc against the left side of the socket arm. Position burr on the right side of lower tier arm against the hub. For a left antler, mount the antler to lower tier arm with the center of the antler arc against the right side of the socket arm. Position the burr on the left side of the lower tier arm, against the hub. Adjust movable arms to sit tightly against the main beam between the G2 and the G3. Some antlers may work better to position the arm against the main beam on the brow tine side of the G2. The movable arm moves in and out and rotates. Tighten the set screw on lower tier arm to lock the movable arm to secure the antler. See Picture 3.

9.      Continue procedure in Step 8 to mount remaining antlers to the lower tier arms.

10.  Once the 7 lower tier antlers are in place, test the security, weight distribution and level by lifting the top loop. Use a second person or hang the loop to check the level visually, or by holding a level below the lower tier arms. Adjust antlers or swap positions to get desired look, symmetry and level. Once achieved, ensure that the set screws on lower tier arms are tight and antlers secure by lightly shaking. NOTE: It is easier to get the antlers mounted and adjusted to the shedelier prior to hanging.

11.  Mount 1 of 4 same sided antlers between upper tier arms. Position the antler with the burr down with inside of the antler facing out (see picture 4). The main beam towards the tip and the G2 will form the top of a Y and the main beam to burr will form the lower part of a Y. Mount an antler in this position with the Y in between two of the upper tier arms next to each other. It is recommended to start with a larger or longer tined antler on your first upper tier antler. If the main beam or the brow tine hits the socket or blocks the lightbulb socket, try another position between upper tier arms or rotate the upper stem slightly to better position the antler.

12.  To mount the next upper tier antler, repeat step 11. Move to the next position by rotating towards the direction of the G2. With right antlers, you will rotate counterclockwise, with left antlers, you will rotate clockwise. When mounting the antler in the above listed position, the main beam towards the tip will go over the G2 of the previously mounted antler. This will lock these antlers into place. Repeat procedure with the third antler.

13.  For the 4th/last antler, mount antler between the last two upper tier arms in the same position as listed for the other antlers. The main beam towards the tip will go over the G2 of the previously mounted antler and needs to be mounted behind a portion of the first antler, such as positioning the G2 of this fourth antler behind the G3 of the first antler. This can vary depending on the antlers being used, but ensure that the antlers are all locked in place and secure.

14.  Additional antlers can be added for your desired look to the top of the upper tier.

15.  Test for level, symmetry and security again, as detailed in step 10.

16.  The process of installing the shedelier to the ceiling is straight forward, but if you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with removing and installing light fixtures, you can hire a licensed electrician. If installing yourself, continue with the next steps.

17.  Turn off breaker to the fixture location for your shedelier. Ensure that the power is off before you begin.

18.  Determine exact length needed by measuring how high you want your shedelier to be and adjust or reduce chain length accordingly. Do this by removing the quicklink off the chain and bend apart the chain link at the desired location and discarding leftover chain by using chain pliers or two pliers (or two crescent wrenches). Once at desired length, replace quicklink on chain.

19.  If hanging from a ceiling box, assemble the crossbar as shown (see picture 5). Two lengths of threaded pipe are included, use the size the works best in your ceiling box. If you are hanging from an eye bolt or hook, hang the eye bolt with the quicklink and skip to step 25.

20.  Remove the screw ring from the screw collar on the crossbar. Slide screw ring onto chain and slide it down a few links of chain.

21.  Slide included canopy cover onto chain and bring it down to above the screw ring with raised lip of the canopy cover facing up. See picture 6.

22.  Install the crossbar into ceiling box with the two attached screws.

23.  Adjust the crossbar to the correct height, the bottom will sit at the threads of the black screw collar when the canopy cover is against the ceiling. Use the smaller threaded pipe if needed. Screw the nut up against the crossbar once adjusted to the correct height to lock in place.

24.  Ensure that the quicklink is open and hang the shedelier on the crossbar screw collar loop. NOTE: When hanging the shedelier from the ceiling, take proper precautions to hang the shedelier safely. Utilize assistance if needed and ensure that you have the proper equipment such as a sturdy ladder to hang the shedelier safely. The shedelier with antlers weighs 20-30 pounds. Most ceiling boxes accommodate up to 50 pounds. Make sure your shedelier does not exceed 50 pounds. This would only be possible with many more antlers than the standard 11 antlers. Check for height, adjust if necessary. Then, close the quicklink by screwing it closed.

25.  Next, wire the shedelier. Ensure that the breaker is off to the fixture location.

26.  Insert the lamp wire and bare ground wire through the crossbar post and into the ceiling box. Bring the wire out from the box to wire it up more easily.

27.  Separate the two black plastic coated wires from the shedelier and strip each wire about 0.5 inches. Wrap each of the separated and stripped lamp wires around the hot and neutral wires (typically black and white) coming from the ceiling box and secure tightly with the included wire nuts. Wrap the bare ground wire from the shedelier around the ground wire in the ceiling box and secure tightly with the wire nut. Next, loosen the green ground screw on the cross bar and wrap the loose bare ground wire around the green ground screw, and tighten down.

28.  Push the three wires and wire nuts into the ceiling box.

29.  Bring up the canopy cover flush to the ceiling and then bring up the black screw ring and screw into the black screw collar, securing the canopy snugly to the ceiling.

Once installed, turn breaker back on, install included candelabra bulbs and enjoy your shedelier!
